Culinary vacation in Montepulciano - 4 Days (4 nights)

With this package you will experience Tuscan wine country. Classes place an emphasis on traditional dishes. Side trips to artisan food producers round out your stay.  

     
Accommodation

You will be staying in the heart of Montepulciano Wine Region at the historic agriturismo Dionora. The complex is comprised of period stone buildings that have been furnished with all modern conveniences while maintaining their classic Tuscan charm.

Overlooking the villages of Pienza and Montefollonico, Dionora is immersed in the stillness of nature, surrounded by unspoiled woods.

Rooms are equipped with satellite television, mini bar and air conditioning and all bathrooms have hydro massage tub and shower cabin.  In colder months, a cosy fireplace in each bedroom can be lit to provide a very special comfort.

The grounds feature lovely landscaping, a pool and area for out-door dining. The wisteria arbor is a perfect spot for tasting the olive oil and wine produced by the farm, while enjoying spectacular sunsets and the sight of sheep grazing in the fields.

The roads that wind through hills and valleys leading to the famous wine producing village of Montepulciano (two kilometers) are some of the most enchanting in Tuscany.

 

1st day -  welcome to Dionora

• Transfer from the airport or train station by minivan to Dionora

• At the hotel, welcome aperitif with traditional Tuscan appetizers. Time to relax in your room or unwind at the nearby pool . You can even take a stroll through the estate vineyards before dinner.

• Welcome dinner prepared by Chef Giuseppe featuring local produce and paired with the exclusive estate wines

 

2nd day - tour of Montepulciano / wine tasting / cooking class

• After breakfast , an escorted tour to the charming ancient village of  Montepulciano. You will see the most notable city’s landmarks including the palazzo Ricci which holds in its underground cellars one of the oldest wine caves :   La Cantina del Redi .

• Wine tasting of Vino Nobile and Rosso wines of Montepulciano with appetizers .

• Lunch (on your own). Montepulciano offers a range of interesting choices.  

• Today’s class:  Tuscan Antipasti and two pasta dishes complimented with classic sauces. Dessert to follow.
Dinner paired with the estate wines .

 

3rd day - visit to a medieval village, cheese tasting, a classic tuscan lunch

• A visit to the medieval village of Monticchiello and the world heritage site of Pienza. Pienza is world-famous for its Pecorino cheese :

• A visit to a local dairy for a cheese tasting (paired with honey and compotes).

• Lunch in a tuscan farm house, with a meal based on local farm products.

• Return in the afternoon. Evening on your own. An escorted transfer to the village can be provided

 

4th day - visit to Cortona, wine tasting, all about extra virgin olive oil

• A visit to Cortona, the world- famous ancient town , immortalized by artists, writers and movie- makers. Half- day will be dedicated to see its architectural treasures .

• Lunch in town at a selected restaurant featuring the area’s cuisine.

• A visit at the famous winery of Avignonesi with a tasting of the estate’s wines .

• Return to Dionora with a class about Extra Virgin Olive Oil, followed by an oil tasting (the estate produces an outstanding one).  

• The afternoon’s second class  will be focused on Tuscan soups (with Extra Virgin Olive oil playing an important role):
 Pappa al pomodoro, Ribollita and  a Main Course : either chicken or pork. Dessert to follow. Dinner accompanied with the estate's  wines .

5th day - farewell

• Breakfast and good bye from Montepulciano.
Transfer to the airport / train station or continue on your tour.

Tour of Montalcino: Montalcino as the birthplace of Brunello wine, which someone once defined as the best and most renowned wine in Italy. Visit the famous  Benedictine abbey of S. Antimo.
